This is one of my favourite sites for generating writing ideas. It provides you with sentence starters, imaginative and thought provoking images and questions to help develop your writing.

This wonderful site often uses animations and short films to spark imaginative writing ideas. There are writing prompts and suggestions for the type of genre your child can write.

This website has a wealth of printable resources for every subject. For writing, there are hundreds of useful, simple resources. In addition there are lots of Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation tasks.

Children can listen to audible books for free! There are quite a few books to listen to and they are categorised according to age.

This brilliant game based learning platform helps children learn to read and further develop phonic knowledge.

This fantastic phonics and early reading program is free on your PC/ laptop. Really engaging and fun!

Computing (Coding) Apps & Programs

Tynker

APP

Tynker is the #1 Kids Coding platform! Over 60 million kids and thousands of schools use Tynker's award-winning curriculum to learn to code! If you have devices, such as a Sphero to Parrrot drone you can code them in this app.

Scratch

Website

Scratch is used by millions of children and coders across the world. There are so many tutorial and resources available online that you can conduct almost any project with your child.

BBC Micro:bit

Website

Even if you do not have a Micro:bit at home you can still code using the on screen simulator. There are a selection of very interesting projects with accompanying tutorials for your child to work through.

This is a wonderful animation app which allows you to create 3 part or 5 part stories as well as science reports. The backdrops, characters and quality are superb.

APP

This app can be purchased for free but for all the best functionality we would recommend getting the Directors Pass (£3.99) which allows access to more characters and backgrounds.

I Can Animate

APP

This is a fantastic app for doing stop frame animations using lego, play dough or whatever objects you have access to. Start by watching the Lego Movie or Wallace & Gromit for inspiration.

We love using this really simply app in schools to create short explainer videos. You can add awesome title intros and there are lots of interactive and mind-blowing filters and stickers.

iMovie

APP

iMovie is Apple's video editing app. It is straight forward to use and can create astonishingly good videos. As well as a range of effects you can also add sound effects and background music.

Animoto

APP

Animoto takes your photos and short videos and allows you to create professional looking videos in minutes. There is a large bank of background music and themes. Well worth a play!

BBC Bitesize

Website

This website has loads of wonderful animations to explain key science topics. There are also quicks quizzes to help test your understanding.

Website

There is so much content on this site. You can sign up for free to access even more content. As well as interesting factual content there are also fun games to challenge your child.

BrainPop

Website

Although BrainPOP provides resources for a whole selection of different subjects, I particularly like the science resources, videos and wealth of content. During this time you can sign up for free as a family.

One of my favourite features of this app is the ability to take a Flyover Tour of key cities. By selecting the Flyover tour you can be taken to the key landmarks and see the layout of the city to area you have chosen.

APP

Google Expeditions is a wonderful app for exploring so may different geographical places and features including under the sea, mountain tops and inside amazing buildings. You can access it on lots of different devices and it always adds that "Wow" factor.

Find countries, capitals, mountains etc. There are 20 different modes to this app so it is important to choose the easier option to start of with.

This app will help you learn where different countries are located around the world.
